Green is the earth, mother womb of us all,
Myself included. Hay ya aya tokka.
Elements combine to create a mouse,
Perfect with chubby little hands and feet.
I cry when hungry, lonely, or poopy.
Breathe life into me, my mother bison.
White Buffalo Woman, giver of all that is good,
Flow rivers of milk into my belly, and let me live.

Turn the wheel ninety degrees and I have grown.
No longer chubby hands and feet. Wa shee tay.
An adolescent bear am I,
Though it’s really my hormones that are raging.
Milk will not keep me alive, Bison Mother.
Grandfather Eagle, you must care for me.
Soar high, see far. Tell me what you see.
With the blessing of your foresight, I shall live.

The wheel of life must turn; who can stop it from
Turning another quarter turn? Wa shee tay.
Soon I must become a buffalo woman, bison man,
Protector of small ones, giver of life to tiny baby mice.
And grandfather… mouse? His wheel has turned
Already the full 360°. I will care for him,
The life he gave, I will give back to him,
Even if I have to change his diapers and feed him strained peas,
Yet we both shall live.

Grandfather Eagle, can you hear me?
Hay ya aya tokka.
Innocent you have become, free from Worldly cares
That this Buffalo Woman would provide.
Celestial panther in the sky,
The shooting star whose trail you must ride.
My own dear one, see your grandchild’s child.
A new, perfect tiny mouse. Can you hear his cry?
Life goes on, so they say.
Time, life, both are a wheel.
Hay ya aya tokka, all is well.
Ja guru deva, nothing’s gonna change my world.
Wa shee tay, “Dulce et Decorum Est.”

This is the poem that won as a prize for guessing where my silly signature quote was from. The quote was "It's like a perverted trail mix of penguin Viagra, penguin estrogen, and Spanish penguin fly." It's from Futurama. ~YumeLenawawe is part Shawnee, so I tried to go with the Cambridge school of anthropology which is to try and make rituals and other cultures translate into our Western way of thinking. The animal references are a Jungian archetype, the mandala, which is found in some Plains Indian cultures. The nonsense words I made up just because they sounded right. "Ja guru deva, nothing's gonna change my world," is actually a Hindu chant that I learned from the Beatles' song "Across the Universe."

The use of the wheel is perfect. :) I adore the last stanza.
The first stanza though, the fifth line doesn't quite fit. "Poopy" while amusing and indeed true doesn't carry the same tone as the rest of it. That's just personal preference though. It made me smile. The line screams Little Mouse, in a good way, even at the same time.
The picture is gorgeous! It fits perfectly. :glomp:

Thank you so much :D

thanks. i totally know what you mean. i just couldn't think of a better word to convey that the mouse is a baby and needs help disposing of its biological waste, in a diminutive or infantile connotation. if you think of one, by all means let me know and i'll change it.

"Dirty" might work as well- it spreads the imagry to not only biological waste, but another childish talent as well- a knack for finding messes (even in sterile rooms)

dirty... hmmm *ruminates*, yeah, but it's too euphemistic. i'd rather have another word for poop that accomplishes the same things linguistically: it is cute, it means feces, it is associated with children, and it catches you off guard, i.e. "Did he just call the shit 'poop?'"

Haha, this is true. I can't think of any that quite fit!
